About the role

Banner Desert Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to join our Progressive Care Unit. As part of our East Valley expansion efforts, we are adding a new 36-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) to support our patients. This is a part-time night shift position working from 6pm-6:3am, with rotating weekends and holidays. Enjoy an 18% night shift differential when applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Provides routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contributes to the overall patient plan of care.
  • Assists with daily living activities, including basic hygiene, mobility, and nutritional intake.
  • Collects patient specimens and data, such as vital signs, input/output, and other delegated measurements.
  • Documents objective data and routine aspects of patient care in medical records.
  • Assists in the transportation of patient specimens.
  • Recognizes and reports abnormalities or changes in patient health status to licensed professionals.
  • Promotes continuity of care by communicating patient status accurately to other caregivers.
  • Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated by a licensed professional, including blood draws, foley catheter removal, IV removal, EKGs, and Health Unit Coordinator duties.
  • Provides supplies, support, and assistance to clinical staff and patients for procedures.
  • Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support department efficiency and communication flow.
  • Participates in resolving customer problems or escalates issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains adequate levels of office, dietary, and medical supplies; completes requisition forms and reconciles orders upon delivery.
  • Monitors and tracks electronic equipment, such as patient ID scanners and laptops, ensuring accountability and functionality.
  • May assist with transporting patients, including pre-operative and post-operative patients to critical care units.
  • Participates in room turnover and supports a fast-paced environment with a focus on customer service.
  • Interacts with staff, patients, families, and physicians at all levels.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Current BLS certification is required.
  • Excellent organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
  • Computer literacy and keyboarding skills.
  • In California: advanced skills are excluded.
  • BSS team members must have 12 months of Banner experience in the role.
  • For employees in behavioral health clinical settings serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment; Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
  • For Banner Home Care AZ employees: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • For BUMCS employees in behavioral health clinical settings: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent healthcare experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
