Certified Patient Care Assistant Progressive Care Unit

About the role

This position is on our 3A 24-bed Progressive Care Unit caring for patients with medically complex needs. This unit sees a variety of cardiac, pulmonary, renal, post-surgical, and post-procedure patients. You will provide routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contribute to the overall plan of care. As the ideal candidate, you will be responsible for on-going patient data collection and documentation of medical records, and provide a variety of unit support functions which contribute to the overall efficient operation of the nursing unit/department.

Part-time (2 weekly 12-hour shifts) night shifts available from 6pm-6:30am. There are no set days; weekend and holiday rotations are required. Enjoy a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential when applicable.

A 12-month commitment is required for the sign-on bonus.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance in activities of daily living, including basic hygiene, mobility, and nutritional intake.
• Collects patient specimens and data, such as vital signs, input/output, and other delegated measurements.
• Documents objective data and routine aspects of patient care in medical records.
• Assists in the transportation of patient specimens and ensures accurate communication to other caregivers.
• Recognizes and reports abnormalities or changes in patient health status to licensed professionals.
• Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated, including blood draws, foley catheter removal, EKGs, and EKG monitoring.
• Provides supplies, support, and assistance for unit-specific procedures under direct supervision.
• Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support operational efficiency and communication flow.
• Participates in resolving customer problems or escalates issues appropriately.
• Maintains complete and accurate patient records, including admission, transfer, and discharge information.
• Ensures all reports and forms are scanned or filed into patient records.
• Maintains adequate supplies of office, dietary, and medical materials, and completes requisition forms.
• Monitors and tracks electronic equipment, ensuring all items are accounted for and in working order.
• May assist with transporting patients, including pre- and post-operative patients to critical care units.
• Participates in OR room turnover.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice (required for new hires and transfers).
• Skills and abilities typically attained with 1 year of medical clerical experience, preferably in a hospital or physician office setting.
• Excellent organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and computer literacy, including keyboarding skills.
• Depending on department assignment, must pass an ECG or EEG test with a minimum score of 85%, accurately identifying lethal cardiac dysrhythmias and epileptiform activity.
• Successful completion of a unit-approved basic electrocardiogram or electroencephalographic interpretation course, or on-the-job training.
• For positions in behavioral health settings serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
• For Banner Home Care AZ: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required at hire and maintained throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure in Arizona.
• Recent healthcare experience.
• Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program.
