About the role

A Patient Care Assistant performs routine nursing services under the supervision of a professional nurse or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR). This position is for the Float Pool, working nights on a full-time schedule (0.9 FTE) at VMC Main Campus in Renton, WA.

Responsibilities

  • Report significant signs and symptoms, changes in patient condition (including level of consciousness, mobility, breathing pattern, skin color, pain, difficulty swallowing, new wound drainage, decreased output, etc.), equipment alarms or malfunctions, and concerns related to patient/family behavior or emotional status or compliance to the Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR).
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac/pulmonary arrest, psychiatric emergencies, postpartum hemorrhage (Birth Center), and newborn emergencies (Birth Center).
  • Demonstrate safe use of patient care equipment.
  • Demonstrate understanding of developmental/behavioral characteristics for all age groups served: neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric (older adult).
  • Perform phlebotomy as requested according to correct procedure.
  • Maintain biannual phlebotomy certification.
  • Perform chem strip procedure according to procedure.

Requirements

  • Current licensure to practice in the State of Washington as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • AHA BLS for healthcare providers.
  • MA-Phlebotomy certification (or must obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • One year of patient care experience (preferred).

  • Capable of comprehending, executing, and acting within scope of practice.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills in a diverse population.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional developments of all age groups.

Pay

Min $27.34 – Max $43.61/hrly DOE
