Location: Renton, WA – VMC Main Campus, Nurse Float department
Full-time, 0.9 FTE night shift position.
About the role
A Patient Care Assistant performs routine nursing services under the supervision of a professional nurse or Clinical Administrative Resource (CAR). This float-pool role serves multiple departments and requires variable work hours.
Responsibilities
- Perform generic and department-specific clinical-support duties as outlined in the Clinical Support Partner job description.
- Report significant signs, symptoms, and changes in patient condition—such as level of consciousness, mobility, breathing pattern, skin color, pain, wound drainage, or decreased output—to the RN, LPN, or CAR.
- Report alarming or malfunctioning equipment and any behavioral, emotional, or compliance concerns.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergencies: cardiac/pulmonary arrest, psychiatric crises, postpartum hemorrhage (Birth Center), and newborn emergencies (Birth Center).
- Operate patient-care equipment safely.
- Understand and adapt care to the developmental and behavioral characteristics of all age groups served: neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
- Perform phlebotomy and chem-strip procedures according to protocol; maintain biannual phlebotomy certification.
Requirements
- Current Washington State Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
- AHA BLS for healthcare providers.
- One year of patient-care experience preferred.
- Medical Assistant (MA) – Phlebotomy certification required; must obtain within 90 days of hire if not already certified.

Pay
Salary range: $27.34 – $43.61 per hour, depending on experience.
