Patient Attendant - Med/Surg

About the Role

Responsible for monitoring any and all movements of patients who have been placed under observation to maintain patient and staff safety at UMC, Nevada’s only nonprofit Level I Trauma Center, Verified Burn Center, and Multi-Organ Transplant Center. Responsibilities

• Monitor patients under observation to ensure safety.
• Follow hospital and department safety practices and principles.
• Adhere to patient rights, infection control policies, and handling of hazardous materials.
• Respond to department and hospital emergencies as per established policies.
• Communicate effectively with diverse individuals in difficult situations.
• Maintain effective working relationships with personnel across the organization.
• Use equipment safely and efficiently.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Experience working in a healthcare environment preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of CPI Training or Techniques.
• Experience (within the last 3 years) providing direct patient observation or monitoring in a healthcare setting.
• Documented experience in an Acute Care or similar setting.
• Recent experience working with the public in difficult situations.
• Availability to work all shifts, including graveyard, seven days a week as needed.

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Effective communication with individuals from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to stay alert over extended periods of time.
• Mobility to work in a clinical setting, including sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods.
• Vision to read printed materials and use standard equipment, including Video Display Terminal (VDT) screens.
• Hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone.
• Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
