About the role
The Patient Access Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and compliance with regulations. They are responsible for conducting quality interviews, gathering necessary identification, confirming patient demographics, and performing various administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors promptly and courteously.
- Implement scheduling, pre-registration, pre-certification, referral procurement, and insurance verification policies.
- Ensure accurate patient identification and demographic information.
- Conduct intensive screenings for Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care patients to verify network status and coordination of benefits.
- Obtain all applicable patient consents and attestations.
- Perform functions such as facility-based scheduling, bed planning, pre-registration, registration, insurance verification, pre-certification, point-of-service cash collection, and financial clearance.
- Adhere to regulatory forms and ensure patient safety.
- Communicate with patients, parents, and caregivers in a way that is developmentally and culturally appropriate.
- Resolve patient inquiries and escalate issues as necessary.
- Process patient registrations and financial clearances.
- Coordinate daily activities and foster a positive patient experience.
- Access and navigate payer websites to confirm coverage and benefits.
- Work with patients to understand and clear their financial responsibilities.
- Provide administrative information and sign regulatory forms.
- Scan documents and communicate with patients and physicians' offices regarding scheduling and records.
- Assist with pre-admission testing and patient records management.
- Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work rotating schedules and three out of six holidays.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic medical terminology knowledge.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
- Experience in a hospital setting, preferably in patient financial services.
- Knowledge of insurance specifications, ICD10 and CPT4 codes.
- Bilingual (Spanish or Korean) is preferred.
- Experience with EPIC HB, Cadence, and Prelude is preferred.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: 1+ years of experience in a hospital setting, preferably in patient financial services.
- Skills: Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; proficient in medical terminology and insurance specifications.
- Other: Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
