About the Role

The Patient Access Representative is responsible for greeting patients and visitors in outpatient registration areas. As the first point of contact, this role ensures excellent customer service while obtaining accurate patient demographic and insurance information to facilitate proper reimbursement. Financial communication with patients is handled professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Greets customers promptly, courteously, and helpfully.
  • Verifies patient information and ensures completion of appropriate paperwork.
  • Obtains and copies insurance cards and driver’s licenses; enters/updates patient demographic and insurance information accurately and timely in the computer system.
  • Compiles and maintains all forms/documents in the patient’s medical record.
  • Manages the appointment scheduling system, including scheduling, coordinating, and adjusting appointments based on patient requests, provider schedules, and system capabilities.
  • Follows "No-Show" procedures and completes appointment reminder calls.
  • Answers and screens telephone calls, takes detailed messages, and routes/transfers calls to appropriate staff.
  • Distributes information to nursing and medical support staff accurately and promptly.
  • Collects patient co-pays and outstanding account balances.
  • Prepares office batches and balances patient payments at the end of each workday.
  • Serves as a liaison between patients and medical support staff; communicates with insurance companies for referral information and assists patients with scheduling specialist appointments or testing.
  • Checks out patients, provides visit-specific information, and schedules future appointments.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly front desk and waiting area.
  • For PARs with PAR/Clinical access to the electronic medical record (EMR), enters patient clinical information timely and accurately.
  • Participates fully as a member of the Patient Centered Medical Home Team.
  • Performs the professional, clinical, or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Previous related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous healthcare experience.

This is a part-time (PRN) position.
