About the role
This position is a Patient Access Representative Associate role within the Patient Access Services department at Optum, in partnership with Allina Health. You will support the Allina Health account by providing support during patient registration, addressing claims issues, and assisting with financial assistance programs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome patients in person
- Collect demographic and insurance information
- Check in and interview patients to complete appropriate paperwork
- Direct patients to their appointment or procedure
- Assist in scheduling add-on appointments
- Document any issues and resolutions in the electronic medical record
- Resolve claim issues or registration errors on patient accounts
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits information for payers
- Obtain cost information and explain it to the patient if necessary
- Collect co-pays or deductibles and respond to questions regarding financial assistance programs available
- Screen and approve patients for financial assistance programs
- Assist and counsel patients with the application process for available financial assistance programs
- Provide technical or functional direction for employees
- Assist patients in completing request for information forms and submit to appropriate departments
- Obtain signatures from patients as needed
- Gather medical record information from all departments for collection
- Provide customer service for inbound and outbound telephone calls
- Mentor other staff as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- 6+ months of customer service experience in an office/hospital setting
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Ability to work 10:30pm - 7:00am Sunday - Thursday
- Must be 18 years of age OR older

- Revenue Cycle experience
- General office experience
- Epic experience
Physical Demands
- Consistent walking, standing, bending, turning, etc.
- Lifting weight up to 10 lbs. occasionally, up to 2-5 lbs. frequently

The hourly pay for this role will range from $16.00 to $29.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
