Job Summary

Affords assistance in coordinating activities between scheduling, insurance verification, and pre-certification. Acts as a clinical liaison with physician practices, engaging in pre-visit services.

Details of the Position

  • Pre-registers/registers patients with accurate patient demographic and financial data.
  • Collects patient balances, co-payment, co-insurance, or other payment types.
  • Verifies coverage and ensures all insurance requirements are met, obtaining all prior authorization and/or referrals as necessary before patient arrival.
  • Responds to customer inquiries.
  • Aids in departmental coverage as needed.
  • What You Bring

    • High School Diploma preferred, or equivalent.
    • At least 1 year of required medical office or related customer service experience.
    • Preferred experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology and CPT/ICD-10 coding (preferred).
    • Knowledge of insurance process and regulations (preferred).
    • Ability to manage conflict effectively and professionally (required).
    • Excellent time management skills, emphasizing meeting time-sensitive deadlines (required).
    • Good customer service skills and interpersonal skills (required).

    Department / Location Specific Notes

    • Care Delivery and Outpatient Clinics: Consideration given to strong background in customer service in lieu of medical office or related experience.
    • Ketchikan Medical Center: Management of ED incoming phone calls, monitoring OB Prosec/McKinley alarm system, assisting with Cardiac Rehab departmental charge entry.
    • Southeast Alaska: Collaboration with healthcare team to obtain VA/Tricare or State of Alaska Medicaid Authorization for medical care and/or travel, including air or ground transportation and lodging/meals for patients and their escorts (if applicable), who are referred by PeaceHealth to medical facilities in and outside of the State of Alaska. Effective communication and care team coordination.
    • Maintains VA and/or State of Alaska log; accurately tracks authorization status and voucher usage for stocking adequate supply.

    Working Conditions

    • Consistently operates computer and other office equipment.
    • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
    • Sedentary work.
    • Predominantly operates in an office environment.
    • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
    • Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribe; view a computer terminal; extensive reading.
