Patient Access Representative - Admitting

Job Summary

Affords assistance in coordinating activities between scheduling, insurance verification, and pre-certification. Serves as a clinical liaison with physician practices, engaging in pre-visit services.

Pre-registers/Registers Patients

  • Accurately captures patient demographic and financial data
  • Registers patients using various methods, including mobile carts

Verifies Insurance and Ensures Coverage

  • Collects patient balances, co-payments, co-insurance, or other payment types
  • Verifies coverage and ensures all insurance requirements are met
  • Obtains prior authorizations and referrals as necessary before patient arrival

Responds to Customer Inquiries

  • Assists with answering customer questions
  • Maintains departmental coverage as needed

Schedules Appointments

  • Daily appointment scheduling, including reminder calls and contacting referrals

Other Duties

  • May transport patients using escort or wheeled transport equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What You Bring

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • At least 1 year of medical office or related customer service experience, required
  • Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology and CPT/ICD-10 coding, preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance processes and regulations, preferred
  • Ability to manage conflict effectively and professionally, required
  • Excellent time management skills, with emphasis on meeting time-sensitive deadlines, required
  • Good customer service skills and interpersonal skills, required

Department / Location Specific Notes

  • Cottage Grove Medical Center: Management of ED incoming phone calls, and may be required to provide switchboard coverage. Monitoring OB Prosec/McKinley alarm system. May assist with Cardiac Rehab departmental charge entry.
  • Caregivers may be required to operate in an office environment, predominantly sitting, and may need to communicate and exchange accurate information.
