About the role
The Patient Access Representative facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into Mercy Hospital Southeast facilities, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and register patients
- Verify patient benefits and pre-certify services
- Ensure accurate patient data is entered into the patient record
- Work with insurance carriers and comply with Medicare guidelines
- Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other hospital staff
- Maintain positive relationships and handle stressful situations professionally
- Perform administrative tasks with high accuracy and attention to detail
- Use various computer systems and perform basic office tasks
Requirements
- 1-3 years clerical experience and customer service experience preferred
- Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
- High School diploma required; some college helpful
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Knowledgeable with various computers systems
- Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
Qualifications
- Physical requirements include pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs, prolonged standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and squatting
