About the role

The Patient Access Representative facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into Mercy Hospital Southeast facilities, including scheduling, registration, benefit verification, pre-certification, and financial clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and register patients
  • Verify patient benefits and pre-certify services
  • Ensure accurate patient data is entered into the patient record
  • Work with insurance carriers and comply with Medicare guidelines
  • Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other hospital staff
  • Maintain positive relationships and handle stressful situations professionally
  • Perform administrative tasks with high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Use various computer systems and perform basic office tasks

Requirements

  • 1-3 years clerical experience and customer service experience preferred
  • Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans preferred
  • High School diploma required; some college helpful
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledgeable with various computers systems
  • Ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard

Qualifications

  • Physical requirements include pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs, prolonged standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and squatting
