Patient Access Rep - OLGMC Labor and Delivery - Part Time Day
About the role
We're seeking a dynamic and compassionate individual to join our team as a Patient Service Representative. Your primary responsibility will be to greet patients and guests courteously, initiate scheduling, and ensure smooth check-in processes. You'll also handle financial transactions, verify insurance, and enhance patient satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
- Gather and input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information accurately.
- Explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.
- Perform financial analysis and inform patients of their financial responsibility.
- Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing cash drawer process.
- Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships and resolve conflicts.
- Adapt to different patient populations and maintain professional communication.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a customer service role.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with an associate’s degree being beneficial.
- Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and information retrieval.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and software specific to the role.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to solve practical problems under pressure.
- Excellent decision-making skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
Qualifications
- Must have certifications in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Medical Assistant (or other medical specialty-based certification).
- Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, payer guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local billing regulations.
- Experience with electronic verification and web applications.

Pay
