Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital is a designated critical access hospital committed to providing quality health care service to residents in Crawford, Franklin and Washington counties. The hospital offers state-of-the-art facilities including an emergency department, modern childbirth center, critical care unit, surgical suite, cardiac rehab services, cancer center, and a comprehensive Therapy and Rehabilitation department. Physical, occupational, and speech therapies are provided at the Sullivan Sports Fitness & Rehabilitation Center, which also offers an exercise facility open to the community through memberships.

About the Role

The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for patients and must represent BJC with the highest standard of customer service and compassion. This role facilitates all components of the patient's entrance into any BJC facility, requiring high emotional intelligence and the ability to make personal connections. The position impacts reimbursement levels and denial prevention through accurate collection of demographics, insurance information, benefit verification, and point-of-service collections. Selecting the correct patient from the master person index (MPI) is critical to patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hospital registration and scheduling within multiple BJC systems.
  • Ensure proper patient identification, registration, scheduling, and insurance verification.
  • Scan and retrieve documents within multiple BJC systems.
  • Validate that orders are complete, signed by the ordering provider, and the correct test is ordered.
  • Provide patients with preparation instructions for scheduled procedures and educate them on financial responsibilities.
  • Collect applicable patient payments.
  • Understand, articulate, and enforce hospital compliance with Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP), HIPAA Privacy Standards, Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, Advance Directives, Consent to Treat, EMTALA, and JCAHO Requirements.
  • Ensure each patient completes HIPAA acknowledgement.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to assess and respond to various situations, anticipating patient needs.
  • Communicate professionally and positively with patients, families, and coworkers, both in-person and by phone.
  • Consistently meet or exceed quality standards and mentor lesser-skilled employees.
  • Work independently in a safety-sensitive position, maintaining constant alertness and safe practices.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Associate's Degree (preferred).
  • 2-5 years of experience (preferred).
  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification (preferred).

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM (on-site position; no weekends or holidays).
