About the role
BJC HealthCare is a large nonprofit organization serving Missouri and Southern Illinois. As a Patient Access Representative, you will interact with patients and ensure they receive the best possible care while maximizing reimbursements and preventing denials.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate all aspects of patient entrance into BJC facilities, including registration and scheduling.
- Ensure proper patient identification, verify insurance, scan and retrieve documents within multiple BJC systems.
- Validate completeness and accuracy of orders, ensuring the correct tests are ordered and signed by the ordering provider.
- Communicate with patients about preparation instructions, financial responsibilities, and applicable payments.
- Comply with complex regulatory guidelines such as Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP), HIPAA Privacy Standards, and JCAHO Requirements.
- Assess and respond to various situations with critical thinking, ensuring positive patient experience and minimizing denials.
- Work independently to meet or exceed quality standards and serve as a mentor for less experienced employees.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate's degree preferred.
- 2-5 years of relevant experience.
- Strong communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and federal/state/accreditation agencies.
- Ability to work independently and solve complex issues.
- Positive and patient-focused communication skills.
- Ability to work in a state of alertness and safely.
Preferred Qualifications
- CHAA certification.
