Overview

BJC HealthCare is seeking a Patient Access Representative to join their team. This position will float between their Mason Rd, Chesterfield, and South County Locations, working Monday through Friday from 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM.

Role Purpose

The Patient Access Representative is the first point of contact for patients and must represent BJC with the highest standard of customer service, compassion, and consistency with the organization's mission, vision, values, and service standards. They are responsible for facilitating all aspects of patient entry into BJC facilities, ensuring accurate patient records, and maximizing reimbursement opportunities while minimizing denials.

Responsibilities

  • Registers and schedules patients within multiple BJC systems
  • Verifies insurance, scans and retrieves documents
  • Ensures proper patient identification and order completeness
  • Communicates with patients about preparation instructions, financial responsibilities, and payment collection
  • Affirms compliance with complex regulatory guidelines such as Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP), HIPAA Privacy Standards, Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, Advance Directives, Consent to Treat, EMTALA, and JCAHO Requirements
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills to solve complex issues and communicate professionally with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Selects the correct patient from the Master Person Index (MPI) for patient safety

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate's Degree preferred
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience
  • Supervisor experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • CHAA certification
  • Experience with complex regulatory guidelines
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet quality standards
