About the role

We're seeking a dynamic and compassionate individual to join our team as a Patient Service Representative. Reporting to the Registration Team Lead, you'll greet patients and guests courteously, initiate scheduling, and ensure smooth check-in processes. Your role will involve collecting accurate patient information, verifying insurance details, and ensuring patient satisfaction. You'll also handle financial transactions and maintain a professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
  • Gather and input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information accurately.
  • Explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.
  • Perform financial analysis and inform patients of their financial responsibility.
  • Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing cash drawer process.
  • Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships, and resolve conflicts professionally.
  • Adapt to different patient populations, respecting privacy and adapting communication styles.
  • Other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or similar customer service-related environment.
  • Experience in front-line registration, financial counseling, or similar roles involving direct patient interaction.
  • Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and information retrieval.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in presenting information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and software packages specific to the role.
  • Clerical skills and knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, referral and authorization processes, and current billing regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to solve practical problems under high-stress situations.
  • Excellent decision-making skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in handling/escalating difficult situations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Preferred certifications: CHAM, CHAA, or Medical Assistant certification.
