About the role
We're seeking a dynamic and compassionate individual to join our team as a Patient Service Representative. Reporting to the Registration Team Lead, you'll greet patients and guests courteously, initiate scheduling, and ensure smooth check-in processes. Your role will involve collecting accurate patient information, verifying insurance details, and ensuring patient satisfaction. You'll also handle financial transactions and maintain a professional demeanor.
Responsibilities
- Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
- Gather and input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information accurately.
- Explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.
- Perform financial analysis and inform patients of their financial responsibility.
- Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing cash drawer process.
- Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships, and resolve conflicts professionally.
- Adapt to different patient populations, respecting privacy and adapting communication styles.
- Other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or similar customer service-related environment.
- Experience in front-line registration, financial counseling, or similar roles involving direct patient interaction.
- Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and information retrieval.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in presenting information clearly and professionally.
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and software packages specific to the role.
- Clerical skills and knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, referral and authorization processes, and current billing regulations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to solve practical problems under high-stress situations.
- Excellent decision-making skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in handling/escalating difficult situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Preferred certifications: CHAM, CHAA, or Medical Assistant certification.
