About the role

We're seeking a dynamic and compassionate individual to join our team as a Patient Service Representative. Reporting directly to the Patient Services Manager, you'll greet patients and guests with courtesy, initiate scheduling, and ensure smooth check-in processes. Your role will also involve verifying patient information, processing payments, and providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Create, activate, and complete the patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission process.
  • Gather and input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information accurately.
  • Explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.
  • Perform financial analysis and inform patients of their financial responsibility.
  • Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing cash drawer process.
  • Demonstrate respect and cooperation in all staff relationships, and resolve conflicts professionally.
  • Adapt to different patient populations, ensuring privacy and clear communication.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a customer service role.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with an associate’s degree being a plus.
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and healthcare-specific software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle high-stress situations.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry and information retrieval.

Qualifications

  • Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Certification as a Medical Assistant (or other medical specialty-based certification) preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and adapt to changing priorities.

Skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with various software packages relevant to the role.
  • Technical knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits and payer guidelines.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to handle difficult situations professionally.
