Patient Access Registrar – Emergency Department

About the role
The Patient Access Registrar handles day-to-day admissions for ER, OB, Inpatient, Swing Bed, Observation, day-surgery, and outpatient visits. The role ensures patient needs are met promptly and charts are completed after visits. Strong multi-tasking, self-motivation, organization, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Responsibilities
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of Blue Mountain Hospital District (BMHD).
- Maintain confidentiality of patients, employees, and organizational information in accordance with policies and HIPAA requirements.
- Operate the multi-line telephone system professionally, directing calls, taking messages, and responding to inquiries.
- Greet patients, families, and staff respectfully and professionally.
- Accurately collect and enter patient information, including demographics, insurance details, and service type, into the computer system.
- Use web tools to verify insurance information and eligibility for every patient.
- Authorize hospital admissions.
- Organize, file, and maintain documents, correspondence, client records, and company files accurately and promptly.
- Type required documents and correspondence.
- Comply with all applicable company policies and procedures.
- Communicate clearly with the Operations Manager, administrative staff, and co-workers.
- Demonstrate flexibility and organization in stressful situations.
- Serve as a resource for co-workers and manage doctor-to-doctor calls.
- Safely and correctly operate equipment.
- Support and maintain a culture of safety, quality, and professionalism.
- Order supplies as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (required).

The Blue Mountain Hospital District (BMHD) is located in Grant County, Oregon, in the John Day River Valley of rural Eastern Oregon. The district includes a Critical Access Hospital, Family & Rural Medicine Clinic, Home Care and Hospice, Emergency Medical Services, an Intermediate Care Center, and supporting ancillary departments.
