About the role

The Patient Access Center Representative position at Corporate At Houston Methodist is responsible for scheduling appointments, verifying eligibility and benefits, and assisting patients and physicians with scheduling and registration.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and verify eligibility and benefits for patients
  • Audit and quality review scheduling and registration processes
  • Communicate with patients, physicians, and hospital staff about potential service delays or reimbursement denials
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and physicians
  • Utilize computerized scheduling/registration systems and verify systems
  • Triage calls and provide information to patients as needed
  • Coordinate workflow to assist patients with appointment scheduling and service requests
  • Collect and compile data/information from patients to support departmental and hospital clinical/financial needs
  • Work with physicians, office personnel, and hospital departments to handle calls and resolve issues

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three years of experience in healthcare setting/call center or customer service operations, or successful completion of one-year Houston Methodist Call Center Apprenticeship
  • Healthcare setting knowledge and experience with a strong understanding of medical terminology preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills and healthcare knowledge
  • Speaks, reads, and writes English proficiently
  • Uses medical terminology to include diagnoses, operative procedures, and CPT codes
  • Has working knowledge of PC environment utilizing Windows and basic Excel
  • Manages several applications and websites related to registration simultaneously
  • Has managed care knowledge with the ability to differentiate between insurance plans
