Per Diem - Must be available from 7am to 5pm.

Summary

Under general supervision, the ED and Inpatient Patient Access Associate is responsible for computerized patient registration within the Emergency Room and Admission Areas. This role ensures the integrity of the medical record by validating all patient data, including demographic and insurance information, to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement and revenue collections (Time of Service). Responsibilities include registration functions, patient safety and compliance, comfort care, and delivering a positive patient experience in a fast-paced, 24/7 Emergency Department and Admissions environment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients with a positive and professional attitude and initiate the registration process.
  • Select the correct patient by properly entering required fields within the ADT system to ensure patient safety and create visits appropriately.
  • Perform follow-up on assigned third-party accounts for all ED and Inpatient admissions, including verifying eligibility, obtaining benefits, and ensuring authorization/referral requirements (e.g., drug screenings, Global International patients, referrals for hospital-contracted facilities).
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to a changing work environment, meeting departmental operational needs effectively as an individual and team member.
  • Support Customer Service and Performance Improvement goals of the Department.
  • Determine and appropriately document out-of-pocket responsibility for services as related to insurance contracts or Penn Medicine Princeton Health Fee Schedules (e.g., Self-Pay Fee Schedule).
  • Collect Time of Service (TOS) and Point of Service (POS) Payments according to policy. If necessary, refer patients to a Financial Counselor and/or Medicaid Screener for assistance.
  • Participate in educational sessions, seminars, annual mandatories, staff meetings, and hospital sessions to enhance patient care activities and work behaviors.
  • Utilize Workstation on Wheels (WOW) or a handheld device for bedside registration.
  • Commit to your assigned shift, arrive on time, and facilitate appropriate backup coverage for the ED if calling out.
  • Perform insurance verification for all ED outpatients or Hospital Admissions (IP and OBS), including verifying eligibility, obtaining benefits, and ensuring pre-certification, authorization, or referral requirements are met.
  • Utilize web-based applications and internet resources to follow up on outstanding items, contacting insurance companies and patients as needed to facilitate coverage and payment within established guidelines.
  • Process correspondence from insurance companies, case management, and other areas within 24 hours of receipt.
  • Greet patients with a positive and professional attitude and initiate registration and/or check-in processes as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required).
  • Two years of medical experience.
  • Previous hospital or physician office registration experience preferred.

Pay

Salary Range: $17.75 - $28.33/Hourly. As part of their job offer, successful candidates are provided a specific rate, taking into consideration various factors including experience and education.
