About the role

The Tax Senior Manager, Partnerships at BDO is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, particularly those related to partnerships. This includes understanding and applying complex partnership taxation issues such as section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis, and allocations, section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustments, and TRA calculations. The role also involves developing and implementing strategies to maximize client benefits, manage risks, and maintain client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and develops an in-depth understanding of partnership taxation issues and opportunities.
  • Applies tax knowledge and business/industry knowledge to recommend solutions and maximize client benefits.
  • Develops and implements new or improved tax strategies, including experimenting with promising new strategies.
  • Manages client expectations and provides guidance to other team members.
  • Trains and mentors associates, senior associates, and managers on research skills and tax consulting.
  • Schedules and manages workload, provides performance feedback, and acts as a career advisor.

Requirements

Eight (8) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience are required. Prior supervisory experience and specialized partnership experience are preferred. A CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations) is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, with a Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience and specialized partnership experience.
  • Private equity experience, both fund and portfolio company levels, preferred.
  • License/Certifications: CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations).
  • Software proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and tax research databases.

  • Executive presence and ability to act as a primary contact on assigned engagements.
