About the role

The Tax Senior Manager, Partnerships at BDO is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives and various partnership specific items. This includes understanding and applying knowledge of section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis and allocations, section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustment calculations, and Tax Receivable Agreement (TRA) calculations. The role also involves marketing and business development efforts, leading process improvement initiatives, and maintaining client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and develops an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding partnership taxation.
  • Applies the combination of tax knowledge and knowledge of business/industry to recommend solutions and maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing client taxes, while managing risk.
  • Manages client expectations and develops and drives process improvement and team-building initiatives.
  • Trains and mentors associates, senior associates, and managers on research skills and how to use current software tools.
  • Schedules and manages workload of associates, senior associates, and managers and provides verbal and written performance feedback.
  • Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits.
  • Researches and implements tax strategies, including experimenting with promising new strategies and ideas.
  • Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients.

Requirements

Eight (8) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required. Prior supervisory experience, required. Private equity experience, both fund and portfolio company levels, preferred. CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), preferred. Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role, preferred. Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, preferred. Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software, preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, preferred.
  • Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred.
