Partnership Tax Senior Manager, Advanced Computational Services
About the role
The Tax Senior Manager, Partnerships at BDO is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives and various partnership specific items. This includes understanding and applying knowledge of section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis and allocations, section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustment calculations, and Tax Receivable Agreement (TRA) calculations. The role also involves developing and driving process improvement initiatives, maintaining client relationships, and acting as a source of guidance to other team members.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and develops an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding partnership taxation
- Applies the combination of tax knowledge and knowledge of business/industry to recommend solutions
- Maximizes client benefits, especially by decreasing client taxes, while managing risk
- Manages client expectations
- Develops and drives process improvement and team-building initiatives
- Trains and mentors associates, senior associates, and managers on research skills and how to use current software tools
- Schedules and manages workload of associates, senior associates, and managers
- Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates, senior associates, and managers
- Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel
- Researches and implements tax strategies, including experimenting with promising new strategies and ideas
- Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients
Requirements
Eight (8) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required
Prior supervisory experience, required
Private equity experience, both fund and portfolio company levels, preferred
CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), preferred
Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role, preferred
Software Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, preferred
Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software, preferred
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree, required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, preferred
- Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skills
- Able to work well in a team environment
- Able to develop and manage a team of tax professionals
- Able to effectively develop and maintain client relationships
- Strong organizational skills, especially ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details

- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with firm and client personnel and the ability to successfully interact with professionals at all levels
