About the role

CGC Inc. is recruiting a Human Resources Business Partner for their manufacturing plant in Montreal, Quebec. This is a full-time permanent position offering an exciting opportunity for someone motivated to demonstrate their technical and analytical skills within a manufacturing facility at a large company.

Responsibilities

  • Meet the overall human resources and safety needs at the home plant (Montreal, PQ –165 employees and Laval, PQ- 35 employees), as well as two satellite facilities (Surrey and Port Kells, BC - 23 employees).
  • Provide guidance and support to managers on human resources and safety matters.
  • Manage the plant's talent acquisition strategy, provide salary administration support, and employee development.
  • Serve as a resource to employees for questions and concerns.
  • Based out of the Montreal Plant and reports to the Director of Human Resources for CGC.

Employee Relations

  • Effectively administer CGC/USG's employee relations programs;
  • Ensure cooperative and collaborative relationships exist in the plant;
  • Maintain effective communication practices;
  • Make recommendations regarding complaints, accidents, performance and disciplinary issues;
  • Participate in agency charge responses and investigations;
  • Coordinate plant engagement events.

Safety

  • Act as the primary safety advisor;
  • Ensure appropriate application of all safety rules and regulations;
  • Ensure effective implementation of the Accident Prevention Program;
  • Identify trends and recommend areas of focus for improvement;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements (CNESST, WCB BC and other regulatory agencies);
  • Improve CGC/USG's working environment;
  • Actively participate in case management.

Talent Acquisition

  • Develop and execute the talent acquisition strategy for the Montreal plant while monitoring staffing trends to project staffing needs and respond to changing labor market and business conditions;
  • Lead the university recruiting activities;
  • Manage internal promotion/transfer process;
  • Participate in interviews;
  • Oversee onboarding activities.

Employee Development / Succession Planning

  • Identify training needs for workforce;
  • Deliver training and/or provide training infrastructure;
  • Ensure effective administration of performance management program;
  • Facilitate talent/succession reviews (i.e., 9-Box);
  • Coordinate execution of diversity initiatives.

Salary & Benefit Administration

  • Make recommendations regarding wage, salary, and incentive decisions;
  • Oversee the administration of the Operator Rate Program for non-union plan.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required;
  • Five (5) years of experience in human resources are required, with manufacturing experience being preferred;
  • A strong preference for experience managing a collective agreement;
  • Fluency in both English and French, both orally and in writing;
  • Deep understanding of HR laws and practices;
  • Ability to train groups of varying size and composition;
  • Ability to supervise employees and managers;
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) at all levels of the organization;
  • Leadership and influence skills and ability to maintain collaborative partnerships;
  • Strong employee relations orientation;
  • Strong organizational skills, including time management;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands;
  • Ability to work independently and in teams;
  • Ability to manage administrative staff at the home plant and satellite facilities;
  • Willingness to travel to British Columbia.
