Job Summary

The IU Center for Rural Engagement seeks a student for a project-based internship in partnership with Indiana Landmarks. The Scholar will interview and transcribe oral histories of some of the oldest Black residents in rural south-central Indiana and document locations of historic significance for digital mapping.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Conducts and transcribes oral history interviews
  • Researches and maps locations of historical significance to rural Indiana history
  • Participates in Rural Scholar leadership programming

Qualifications

  • Education: Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
  • Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University
  • Skills: Proficient communications skills, maintains a high degree of professionalism, demonstrates time management and priority-setting skills, demonstrates a high commitment to quality, possesses flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, seeks to acquire knowledge in the area of specialty, demonstrates a high level of accuracy, highly thorough and dependable, ability to problem-solve

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.
