Purpose and Scope

The Intern supports the assigned department by performing task-oriented duties while providing administrative and operational support on campus. Divisions may include but are not limited to Communications, Outreach & Engagement; Office of Technology Services; Student Services; Administrative Services; Legal Services; Human Resources; and academic divisions.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs administrative duties such as scheduling meetings, organizing files, and coordinating correspondence
  • Inputs, updates, and maintains data in organizational databases and calendars ensuring the accuracy and integrity of information
  • Supports customers, if applicable, including answering queries and providing information by way of in-person or electronic communications, campus tours, or at events on or off campus
  • Aids in the planning, execution, and completion of initiatives and events, which may include presentations, conducting research, compiling data, and preparing materials and reports
  • Provides data entry and customer service support within designated departments such as Finance and OTS
  • Aids the Communications office with Recruitment efforts such as making phone calls, events, maintaining outreach spreadsheets, creating social media posts and/or marketing materials

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Familiarity with office software applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or equivalent
  • Excellent technical knowledge of network, PC Hardware, and software
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in performing tasks
  • Ability to work well within a diverse population as well as autonomously
  • Ability to contribute positively to team dynamics and outcomes
  • Ability to handle sensitive information
  • Ability to exhibit professionalism in conduct, integrity, punctuality, and adherence to workplace expectations and policies

Physical Abilities

  • The work is both sedentary with the employee sitting comfortably to do the work and can also require long periods of standing and lifting/carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • May be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile.
  • No additional special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Work Schedule And Conditions

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
