About the role
This position provides administrative support to the daily operations of the IU Student Health Center with exposure to healthcare operations. Ideal for students pursuing pre-health or pre-professional careers.
Responsibilities
- Greets and assists patients during check-in and check-out
- Answers and directs phone calls professionally; provide basic clinic information
- Schedules new and follow-up appointments using clinic software
- Verifies and updates patient demographic and insurance information
- Supports inventory management by tracking supplies and ordering as needed
- Maintains accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA
- Assists with general clerical duties (filing, preparing paperwork, scanning)
- Helps maintain a clean, organized reception area
- Follows the Start-of-Day and End-of-Day Checklists
- Communicates effectively and professionally with staff and supervisors
- May assist with clinical support tasks such as obtaining vital signs (as needed)
Requirements
- Currently enrolled at Indiana University Bloomington
Qualifications
- Preferred education: Currently studying pre-med, nursing, dental, or public health degrees
- Preferred experience: Experience in customer service, healthcare, or front desk role; familiarity with medical terminology
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and Outlook
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and professional
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information
- Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities
Pay
$14.50 per hour, 20 hours per week
Schedule
Monday-Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm, flexible schedule based on availability and department needs. This is a temporary academic position for the fall semester, with potential to extend further based on department needs during the academic year. This is an in-person position in Bloomington, Indiana.
