Part-Time Lecturer Pool - Mechanical Engineering - San Luis Obispo Campus (AY 26/27)
About the role
The Mechanical Engineering Department at Cal Poly invites applications for possible temporary part-time position(s) available as determined by need for the 2026-27 academic year. Teaching assignments will be in fundamental or advanced mechanical engineering courses.
Responsibilities
- Teach fundamental or advanced mechanical engineering courses.
- Collaborate with colleagues in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Ensure student-centered learning and teaching.
- Communicate effectively in both written and oral formats.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching.
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
Qualifications
- A graduate degree is preferred.
- Experience in teaching and/or industry is preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
- Relevant work experience and professional capabilities.

Pay
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,211
Schedule
Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants must be available on very short notice.
