About the role

The Salvation Army Hope Center in Stevens Point seeks an Intake Worker (Shelter Advocate) to provide support to the Intake Worker Director. This role involves conducting intake interviews, assigning rooms, supervising shelter and residents, and performing various supportive services.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts intake interviews of incoming residents into shelter
  • Assigns a proper room and distributes needed bedding and personal items
  • Maintains an awareness of client needs
  • Answers telephone calls, takes messages when appropriate
  • Cleans shelter areas as necessary
  • Prepares snacks for shelter residents
  • Oversees lunch and dinner preparations in dining room
  • Reviews log book and updates entries as needed
  • Performs room inspections
  • Distributes medications as needed
  • Supervises volunteers and community service workers, when assigned

Requirements

Experience working with the homeless population is desirable. No certifications required.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Skills

Strong communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a compassionate heart are essential.
