Part-time, non-tenure stream teaching positions in the Composition Program at the University of Pittsburgh. Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

About the Program

The Composition Program has long cultivated interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to the field of composition. We believe in asking students to do real intellectual work and to engage with difficulty. Our program in Public and Professional Writing extends those commitments across the university and to workplaces, as well as to the broader public sphere. We value flexible teachers who can create engaging and responsible courses.

Responsibilities

  • Teach composition and film studies, with a focus on digital modes and platforms.
  • Guide students to think critically about the social, ethical, and political implications of the technologies they use.

Requirements

  • MA or higher degree required; terminal degree (MFA, PhD, etc.) preferred.
  • Record of superior academic or professional performance.
  • Ability to develop engaging courses that meet established learning goals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact efficiently with diverse people in a multidisciplinary environment.

  • Current curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Cover letter.
  • One-to-two-page teaching statement explaining your approach to teaching composition and film.

Optional Documents

  • Teaching portfolio including:
    • Sample syllabi for two courses.
    • At least two assignments, class activities, workshop practices, or course units demonstrating integration of key elements described in the advertisement.
  • Student surveys for two classes, at least one of which should coincide with sample syllabi.
