Part-Time Faculty: JNL 211: Cross-Media News Writing (Fall 2026)
Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is seeking instructor(s) for JNL 211 Cross-Media News Writing in the Fall 2026 semester (3 credits). Two sections are offered: Mondays/Wednesdays 3:45–5:05 pm and Tuesdays/Thursdays 12:30–1:50 pm.
About the role
Students learn news judgment and cross-media news writing (AP and broadcast styles) on deadline.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred.
- Strong journalism background with familiarity across multiple media platforms.
- Preference given to candidates with prior teaching experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop and distribute a syllabus.
- Order required books and materials before the first day of classes.
- Prepare and deliver course content.
- Hold weekly office hours for student meetings.
- Grade assignments and exams promptly.
- Submit mid-semester progress reports and final grades in accordance with University regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to instruct classes at the scheduled days and times.
- Ability to hold on-campus office hours.
- Ability to grade all student assignments and examinations.
Tools/Equipment
- Operate standard classroom instructional technology, including computer, projector, and document camera.
