Part-Time Faculty: MND 408/608: Magazine and News Editing (Fall 2026)

Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is seeking instructor(s) to teach two sections of MND 408/608 Magazine and News Editing (3 credits) during the Fall 2026 semester.

• Monday/Wednesday 2:15–3:35

About the role

This class covers editorial skills demanded in media organizations: editing and rewriting copy, identifying audiences, creating content across platforms, generating ideas, working with writers, story organization, writing display copy, and fact checking.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred.
• Strong journalism background with specific experience as an editor.
• Familiarity with multiple media platforms and teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Developing a syllabus.
• Ordering books and materials for students to purchase on or before the first day of classes.
• Preparing for classes.
• Holding weekly office hours to meet with students.
• Grading student assignments and examinations in a timely manner.
• Submitting mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to instruct the class on the designated days and times.
• Ability to hold office hours on campus.
• Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.

Tools/Equipment

Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, and document camera.
