About the role
This position is responsible for providing effective instruction for assigned classes. The instructor guides the class in an efficient and effective manner, provides hands-on training, and prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour. The role maintains a safe and orderly learning environment, grades and returns student work in a timely manner, and keeps records of student attendance, academic progress, and grades as required by the college and in compliance with the NC Board of Barbering.
Responsibilities
- Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner; provides hands-on training
- Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour
- Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
- Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
- Maintains records of student attendance, academic progress, and grades as required by the college and in compliance with the NC Board of Barbering
- Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course
- Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom using technology and appropriate instructional strategies
- Uses assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching, testing and evaluating student's classroom and practical knowledge
- Assists Director with student practical exercises
- Coaches students about quality and service standards and goals
- Manages the classroom, maintaining the appropriate balance of classroom discipline and creating a conducive learning environment
- Assists with inspections, tests, and evaluations
- Assists Director with graduation exercises
Requirements
- Associate degree in Barbering or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- North Carolina Barber License
- North Carolina Barber Instructor License; must be in good standing with NC State Board of Barbering
- Five years of barbering experience
- Three years of barbershop management experience
Preferences
- Five years teaching experience
- Post-secondary teaching experience

- Excellent organizational skills
- Knowledge of State and Local board requirements
- Knowledge of and facility with technology and software including computers and web-based resources such as BlackBoard and Moodle
- Ability to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse backgrounds
- Ability to ensure safe and appropriate work practices are followed
- Able to perform normal duties with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Demonstrated good judgment and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential
