Town of Colchester – Parks & Recreation Coordinator – Special Events & Marketing
About the role
The Town of Colchester is seeking a creative, highly-organized professional to join its Recreation team. This position plans, coordinates, and evaluates special events, festivals, community celebrations, and recreational programs, while driving the marketing strategy that gets residents in the door.
Responsibilities
- Manage event logistics, including permits, vendors, entertainment, equipment, staffing, and volunteers.
- Design promotional materials for print, digital, and social platforms.
- Maintain consistent branding across all recreation marketing.
- Build partnerships with local businesses, schools, nonprofits, and sponsors.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and event staff.
- Monitor program participation and feedback.
- Prepare budget recommendations and reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, Parks and Recreation, Event Management, Marketing, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Two or more years of experience in recreation programming, event planning, marketing, or community engagement preferred.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification and a valid driver's license required.
- Evening and weekend availability required for events.
- Experience managing community events, volunteers, and promotional campaigns.
- Strong organizational, project management, and multitasking skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and marketing/design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
- Experience managing social media platforms and website content.
- Two years of progressively responsible recreation center service or programming and leisure services.
- Supervisory experience preferable.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check.
Pay
$56,076.28 - $60,136.70, DOE
