Positions
Full-time, seasonal until approximately 2/18/09
Example of Duties
- Organize, develop, and lead/supervise youths and/or adults in various indoor and outdoor recreational activities and programs.
- Participate in planning and scheduling of activities for recreational facilities and programs.
- Responsible for monitoring school location during recreation time.
- Schedule facility recreational use.
- Set up and move equipment: prepare and maintain facility area of use.
- Arrange and direct various exhibit and special events.
- Maintain facility, scheduling, participant use, and other related records.
- Collect and account for fees.
- Complete various reports as required.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and 6 months experience leading, directing, supervising, coaching, or teaching children and/or adults at a recreation facility, a childcare facility, a childcare program, camps, educational institutions, therapeutic recreational programs, team, organized youth programs, or other similar programs.
- Skill to type at a net of 25 WPM.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Notice
- If selected for hire must obtain current First Aid & CPR certifications within 30 days of hire.
- If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant’s Alaska Driver’s License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska Driver’s License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.
- The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.
- If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160[10]). Accordingly it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted.
- Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $54.25 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.
- Fees for seasonal positions will be reimbursed after hire.
Additional Important Information
- Prefer applicants with experience in municipal recreation programs, principles, practices, and procedures associated with assigned programs and activities.
- Prefer applicant with positive customer service skills.
- Prefer applicants with experience in cash handling procedures.
- Prefer applicants with experience using recreation and janitorial equipment.
- Prefer applicants with experience communicating effectively with others.
- Prefer applicants with experience operating a cash register, credit card machine, multi-line telephone, fax, calculator, printer, and copier machine.
- Prefer experience working with Word, Publisher, Excel, and Outlook.
