Recreation Coordinator - Neighborhood Parks

This Recreation Coordinator position with the Neighborhood Parks group develops and implements After-School and Summer Recreation activities for a diverse group of adolescent participants. Duties are performed in both office and outdoor environments, including exposure to diverse weather conditions and elevated noise levels. Based on operational needs, the role may require work at one or more neighborhood parks: Sunview Park, Roosevelt Gardens Park, Franklin Park, Lafeyette Hart Park, Boulevard Gardens Park, or Delevoe Park.

Responsibilities

• Assists with planning, developing, organizing, and implementing recreation and leisure programs, special events, and related services for various population groups.
• Plans and implements equipment setup for special events.
• Maintains a safe and enjoyable experience for staff and visitors by providing superior customer service, handling patron-related issues, and interpreting rules, regulations, and fees.
• Assists with opening and closing duties, ensuring general upkeep, cleanliness, and appearance of recreation areas, including rental halls, athletic fields, pavilions, and outdoor spaces.
• Acts as lead worker in the absence of a supervisor at assigned programs/events.
• Assigns tasks to subordinate staff and/or volunteers, including opening and end-of-day duties.
• Performs clerical duties such as maintaining participant and volunteer files, answering phones, fielding inquiries, making reservations, and handling business correspondence.
• Maintains operational reports related to program schedules, participation, and evaluations.
• Develops, implements, and assists with training and instruction of program staff and/or volunteers.
• Assists with inventory management, budget recommendations, and obtaining quotes for programming/event materials.
• Provides community outreach, builds cooperative relationships, and promotes recreational activities through social media, printed materials, and community events.
• May assist with cash handling responsibilities.

Requirements

• Associate degree from an accredited college or university (one year of relevant experience may substitute for each year of required education).
• Six months of experience in recreation, athletics, or a closely related field.
• Valid Florida Class E Driver’s License for the duration of employment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, late afternoons/evenings, non-school days (e.g., Winter/Spring Break, teacher planning days), and holidays.

Preferences

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Parks and Recreation Management, Sports Management, Leisure Studies, Hospitality Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
• Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP).
• Ability to speak a foreign language (Spanish, French/Creole).
• One or more years of experience planning/organizing athletic leagues, tournaments, or special events.
• One or more years of experience working in an after-school and/or summer recreation program.
