Paramedic - Emergency Department
Rex Holly Springs Hospital Emergency Department provides a full range of emergency care, including 24 patient beds, two major resuscitation rooms, and a full staff of emergency professionals. We offer complete injury and illness care, advanced imaging (X-rays, CT scans, ultrasound), lab testing, heart and stroke care, breathing support, trauma care, and pediatric services.
About the Role
Works as a member of the Emergency Department clinical team. The paramedic collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to provide appropriate age-specific care in compliance with standards of practice in the hospital or urgent care setting. Provides care to patients under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Physician, with physician oversight for clinical practice. Utilizes skill sets approved by NC-OEMS.
Responsibilities
- Takes directions from nurse, physician, and/or advanced practice provider to implement prescribed therapies within scope of practice.
- Provides rapid evaluation of presenting patients and communicates required needs/care to the care team.
- Identifies clinical priorities and initiates action to improve patient outcomes.
- Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through patient privacy and professional behavior.
- Acts as a patient advocate and communicates effectively to promote information sharing.
- Utilizes triage skills to prioritize incoming ED patients.
- Performs basic data collection, prepares patients for exams, and communicates findings to primary/charge nurse.
- Facilitates blood draws and starting IVs based on orders and in coordination with primary/triage nurse.
- Works within paramedic license scope; does not administer narcotics or perform intubations.
- Transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher as needed throughout the facility.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of OEMS-approved training & competency program for Paramedic and current North Carolina Paramedic Certification.
- Certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
- Six months of experience in a pre-hospital environment as a Paramedic.
- Ability to understand, communicate, and react effectively to the unique needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Demonstrated clinical competence per the position’s Skills Checklist.
Schedule
10:00 AM – 10:00 PM shift, with a rotating holiday requirement.
Pay
$23.24 - $33.41 per hour (hiring range). Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity.
