Responsibilities
- Affords assessments of the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance
- Administers initial treatment at emergency scene and takes and records patient’s vital signs
- Initiates intravenous fluids to administer medication or drug cardiac monitoring
- Administers injections of medications and drugs
- Communicates with physician and other medical personnel in person and by radio-telephone
- Keeps current on treatment techniques, protocol changes, material, and equipment
- Prepares required reports and maintains records of activities
- Cleans assigned emergency vehicle
- Conducts safety inspections, requisitions, and restocks supplies, material, and equipment
- May require other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from an accredited Paramedic training program
- Current Paramedic Certification as defined within the state in which work will be performed
- Current ACLS certification
- (NY Paramedics) – based on city and county: Regional Emergency Medical Service Council (REMSCO), Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee (REMAC), Regional Emergency Medical Organization (REMO) Certifications (NYRA Aqueduct & Belmont) must have NYC REMAC and Nassau County REMSCO – have 30 days to obtain REMSCO
- At least three years’ experience as an EMT-P with an ambulance/EMS service

Schedule
The regular schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm. During scheduled outages, which may last approximately 3-4 months, the team transitions to 24/7 coverage including weekends. Shifts during this period may be 12, 16 or 24 hours.
