Qualifications

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• Paramedic license must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• Paramedic Certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date

Responsibilities

• Maintain clear communication with the attending physician and licensed nurse assigned to patient about all patient care issues
• Assist with patient examinations or treatments and observe and report patients’ signs or symptoms
• Take vital signs and measure and record patient input and output
• Attach oxygen and cardiac monitors
• Monitor patient cardiac rhythm, perform 12 lead EKG, document EKG strips, suction patient airways as directed, and report findings to physician and care team assigned to patient
• Receive patients from EMS personnel and prepare patients for the physician’s care
• Collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by the physician and perform basic laboratory procedures
• Auxiliary in emergency department physicians with patient examinations and treatments including central line insertions, lumbar punctures, defibrillation, cardioversion, chest tube insertion, thoracentesis, arterial lines, suturing, needle chest decompressions, endotracheal and nasotracheal intubation, insertion of intraosseous lines, endotracheal suctioning, inserting Foley catheters, and securing airways through insertion of oral/nasal airway devices
• Perform CPR, defibrillation, cardioversion, and transcutaneous pacing during emergencies
