Paramedic
Description
The MaineHealth EMS Base in Norway covers 9 towns, averaging around 5,500 calls per year, with approximately 70% being 911 responses and 30% transport calls. It operates with 3 crews on a 24/7 schedule and a fourth crew available on an as-needed basis in the winter. This EMS team collaborates closely with the ER staff at MaineHealth Stephens Hospital.
- Routine shift structures include 24-hour shifts from 8A - 8A, 16-hour shifts from 4P - 8A, and 12-hour shifts from 7P/A - 7A/P or 8A/P - 8P/A.
- Common space is available for shift downtimes, with 8 private bedrooms.
- Schedules are typically set 2-3 months in advance, and EMS staff can expect 5 days off in a row every 4 weeks.
Summary
The Paramedic role involves providing both basic and advanced life support during emergency pre-hospital and interfacility transfer care to patients as indicated by their injury or illness, according to state and local protocols.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: Completion of a Paramedic course is required.
- Licenses/Certifications: A current applicable state(s) license as a Paramedic is required, along with a valid driver’s license, current BLS certification, and PIFT Certification within six months of starting.
- Experience: One year of relevant experience is preferred.
