About the role
We employ paralegals to perform work for the SWAN Legal Services Initiative (LSI), a program that addresses barriers within the legal process to ensure children in the child welfare system are placed in safe and permanent homes.
Responsibilities
- Draft legal documents for solicitor review, including petitions, orders, motions and stipulations
- Participate in county court hearings and pre-hearing conferences
- Aid in the preparation of lay and expert witnesses for testimony
- Facilitate and/or train on approved LSI training topics
- Conduct diligent searches to locate parents, relatives, or other potential permanency resources for children receiving services from or in the custody of the county, collaborating with caseworkers on search results
Requirements
- General knowledge/work experience in legal or child welfare
- A minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, or paralegal certificate
