We are seeking a full-time, experienced paralegal to support attorneys at a fast-paced, team-oriented firm in our San Diego office. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with experience in complex litigation and plaintiff firms, particularly in antitrust, securities, and consumer class actions.

About the role

This is an hourly, non-exempt position eligible for overtime, with an annual salary range of $90,000 – $115,000, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. The role involves collaborating with attorneys and paralegals across other S+S offices primarily through email, telephone, and document-sharing platforms. The candidate will manage their own caseload, ensuring familiarity with cases and upcoming deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to multiple partners and associates under the guidance of a Paralegal Manager.
  • Proofread and cite-check all legal documents, ensuring compliance with Bluebook rules.
  • Draft, finalize, file, and serve legal documents, including complaints and supporting documentation.
  • Assist attorneys with discovery and case management.
  • Handle the service of complaints and monitor their status, keeping attorneys informed.
  • Familiarize yourself with pro hac vice procedures for courts nationwide and prepare necessary paperwork.
  • Perform e-filing in federal and state courts, adhering to procedural rules and researching requirements as needed.
  • Conduct factual research, background checks, or other case-related activities as assigned by an attorney.
  • Complete projects accurately and on time, including working overtime as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant paralegal experience.
  • Knowledge of Bluebook citation procedures and advanced grammar skills.
  • Proficiency in technical legal terminology, processes, and procedures.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365, Kofax Power PDF, Bloomberg, Westlaw, LexisNexis File & Serve, Pacer, Courtdrive, and electronic filing in federal and state courts.
  • Experience with SharePoint document management system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, and one of the following:
    • Graduation from an ABA-approved paralegal program, or
    • Graduation from an institutionally accredited paralegal program requiring at least 60 semester hours of classroom study.

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

Pay

Annual salary range: $90,000 – $115,000, based on experience and qualifications. This is an hourly, non-exempt position eligible for overtime.

Candidates will be tested on proofreading, grammar, punctuation, fact-checking, and cite-checking skills during the interview.
