About the role

The Paraeducator supports teachers in the instruction of students with special education needs, including those with moderate/severe disabilities, and mainstream classrooms.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Support students with daily living skills and social interactions
  • Provide assistance during group and one-on-one instruction
  • Monitor student progress and report to teachers
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of higher education study (48 semester units) OR Associate’s or higher degree
  • Possession of an appropriate valid California Driver’s License with evidence of insurability
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Ability to pass MCOE Crisis Intervention Program within six (6) months of employment and maintain valid certification
  • Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing: Ability to pass the MCOE sign language test within six (6) months of employment

Qualifications

  • Experience working with students with disabilities
  • Knowledge of classroom behavior management and early childhood education
  • Proficiency in sign language (for DHH program)
  • Proficiency in Braille (for specific positions)
  • Training in specialized health care procedures (if applicable)

  • Effective time management and organizational skills

Benefits

  • $150 per month incentive for working in the DHH program with proficiency in sign language
  • $150 per month incentive for proficiency in Braille and working in a position eligible for this incentive
  • $150 per month incentive for Specialized Health Care Procedures
  • $500 annual training incentive for participation in training for certification and willingness to administer emergency medications/procedures as defined by contract

Pay

$23.06 - $29.79 per hour

Schedule

M-F; 6.5 Hrs / 183 Days/Yr
