About the role

Under the general direction of the Principal, the Paraeducator performs a variety of duties assisting teachers in the overall support of instructional activities for students enrolled in special education moderate/severe programs and/or mainstream classrooms.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in supporting instructional activities for students with special education needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of higher education study (48 semester units) OR possession of an Associate’s or higher degree OR ability to meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through a formal State or local academic assessment.
  • Prior job-related experience, paid or voluntary, with school-age children or children/individuals with disabilities.
  • Possession of an appropriate valid California Driver’s License with evidence of insurability.
  • Complete approved MCOE Crisis Intervention Program within six (6) months of employment and maintain valid certification.
  • CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • For the Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing: Ability to pass the MCOE sign language test within six (6) months of employment.
  • Copy of transcript, letter of introduction, proof of high school graduation, and resume.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Coursework in education, psychology, child development, classroom behavior management, and/or Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and implementing behavioral management plans.

Pay

Pay Range: $24.22 - $31.28 per hour.

  • $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators working in the DHH program with proficiency in sign language, as certified by MCOE.
  • $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators with proficiency in Braille and working in a position eligible for this incentive.
  • $150 per month incentive for Specialized Health Care Procedures if assigned to specific students and trained by MCOE.
  • $500 annual training incentive for employees who volunteer for and complete training for certification to administer emergency medications/procedures as defined by contract.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 6.5 hours per day, 183 days per year.
