About the role
The Paraeducator supports teachers in the instructional activities for students enrolled in special education moderate/severe programs and/or mainstream classrooms.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Support students with daily living skills and social interactions
- Participate in planning and implementing educational activities
- Provide assistance during group and individual instruction
- Monitor student progress and report to teachers
- Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of higher education study (48 semester units) OR possession of an Associate’s or higher degree
- Prior job-related experiences, paid or voluntary, with school-age children or children/individuals with disabilities
- Licenses and Certifications: Valid California Driver’s License with evidence of insurability, First Aid, CPR Certification, and Crisis Intervention Program within six (6) months of employment
- Ability to pass the MCOE sign language test within six (6) months of employment for DHH program
Qualifications
- Able to demonstrate knowledge or ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics
- Coursework in education, psychology, child development, classroom behavior management and/or Early Childhood Education
- Experience working with students with disabilities and implementing behavioral management plans
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of special education methodologies and resources
Benefits
- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators working in the DHH program with proficiency in sign language, as certified by MCOE
- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators with proficiency in Braille and working in a position eligible for this incentive
- $150 per month incentive for Specialized Health Care Procedures if assigned to specific students and trained by MCOE
- $500 annual training incentive to employees who are requested and volunteer to participate in training for certification and willingness to administer emergency medications/procedures as defined by contract
Pay
$23.06 - $29.79 Per Hour
