About the role
The Paraeducator supports teachers in the instruction of students with special education needs, including those with moderate/severe disabilities, and mainstream classrooms.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Support students with daily living skills and social interactions
- Participate in planning and implementing educational activities
- Provide assistance during group and one-on-one instruction
- Monitor student progress and report on their performance
- Collaborate with other professionals to develop and implement strategies to address students' needs
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of higher education study (48 semester units) OR possession of an Associate’s or higher degree
- Prior job-related experiences, paid or voluntary, with school-age children or individuals with disabilities
- Licenses and certifications: Valid California Driver’s License, First Aid, CPR, and MCOE Crisis Intervention Program
- Ability to pass the MCOE sign language test for DHH program
Qualifications
- Education as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015
- Knowledge of education, psychology, child development, classroom behavior management, and early childhood education
- Experience working with students with disabilities and implementing behavioral management plans
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Proficiency in sign language for DHH program
- Proficiency in Braille and specialized health care procedures

- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators working in the DHH program with proficiency in sign language
- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators with proficiency in Braille
- $150 per month incentive for Specialized Health Care Procedures
- $500 annual training incentive for participating in training for certification and willingness to administer emergency medications/procedures
Pay
$23.06 - $29.79 per hour
