About the role
The Bilingual Paraeducator supports instructional activities for students enrolled in special education moderate/severe programs and/or mainstream classrooms under the general direction of the Principal.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in providing a supportive learning environment for students
- Support students with individualized educational plans
- Implement classroom management strategies
- Provide assistance with daily living skills and behavior management
- Collaborate with other special education staff to develop and implement IEP goals
- Assist in the preparation and organization of materials for lessons
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices
Qualifications
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent AND two (2) years of higher education study (48 semester units) OR possession of an Associate’s or higher degree OR met a rigorous standard of quality and able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge or and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics
- Knowledge: First Aid, Universal health precautions, Strong English and Spanish oral and written communication skills including spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Licenses and Certifications: Possession of an appropriate valid California Driver’s License with evidence of insurability, First Aid, Complete approved MCOE Crisis Intervention Program within six (6) months of employment and maintains valid certification, CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment, Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing: Ability to pass the MCOE sign language test within six (6) months of employment, Demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Spanish by passing the MCOE Spanish Language Competency Test
Benefits
- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators working in the DHH program with proficiency in sign language, as certified by MCOE
- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators with proficiency in Braille and working in a position eligible for this incentive
- $150 per month incentive for Specialized Health Care Procedures if assigned to specific students and trained by MCOE
- $500 annual training incentive to employees who are requested and volunteer to participate in training for certification and willingness to administer emergency medications/procedures as defined by contract
