About the role

Under the general direction of the Principal, the Bilingual Paraeducator performs a variety of duties assisting teachers in the overall support of instructional activities for students enrolled in special education moderate/severe programs and/or mainstream classrooms.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in supporting instructional activities for students in special education programs and mainstream classrooms.
• Provide support to students with disabilities, including those who are deaf/hard of hearing, as needed.
• Complete the MCOE Crisis Intervention Program and maintain valid certification.
• Obtain CPR certification within six months of employment.
• Pass the MCOE sign language test within six months of employment if working in the Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
• Demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish by passing the MCOE Spanish Language Competency Test.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One of the following:
  • Two years of higher education study (48 semester units),
  • An Associate’s or higher degree, or
  • Met a rigorous standard of quality and able to demonstrate knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through a formal State or local academic assessment.
• Prior job-related experience, paid or voluntary, with school-age children or children/individuals with disabilities.
• Knowledge of first aid and universal health precautions.
• Strong English and Spanish oral and written communication skills, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Possession of an appropriate valid California Driver’s License with evidence of insurability.

Benefits

• $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators working in the DHH program with proficiency in sign language, as certified by MCOE.
• $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators with proficiency in Braille and working in an eligible position.
• $150 per month incentive for Specialized Health Care Procedures if assigned to specific students and trained by MCOE.
• $500 annual training incentive for employees who volunteer for and complete training for certification to administer emergency medications/procedures as defined by contract.

Pay

Pay range: $25.55 - $32.99 per hour.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 6.5 hours per day, 183 days per year.
