About the role
Under the general direction of the Principal, the Bilingual Paraeducator performs a variety of duties assisting teachers in the overall support of instructional activities for students enrolled in special education moderate/severe programs and/or mainstream classrooms.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in supporting instructional activities for students in special education programs and mainstream classrooms.
- Provide support to students with disabilities, including those who are deaf/hard of hearing, as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One of the following:
- Two (2) years of higher education study (48 semester units),
- Possession of an Associate’s or higher degree, or
- Met a rigorous standard of quality and able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Prior job-related experience, paid or voluntary, with school-age children or children/individuals with disabilities.
- Knowledge of first aid and universal health precautions.
- Strong English and Spanish oral and written communication skills, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Possession of an appropriate valid California Driver’s License with evidence of insurability.
- Complete approved MCOE Crisis Intervention Program within six (6) months of employment and maintain valid certification.
- Obtain CPR Certification within six (6) months of employment.
- For the Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing: Ability to pass the MCOE sign language test within six (6) months of employment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish by passing the MCOE Spanish Language Competency Test.

- All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a CTC-approved agency to determine the equivalent U.S. degree and major. The Foreign Transcript Evaluation must be attached to your application.
Pay
Pay range: $25.55 - $32.99 per hour.
Available pay stipends:
- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators working in the DHH program with proficiency in sign language, as certified by MCOE.
- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators with proficiency in Braille and working in a position eligible for this incentive.
- $150 per month incentive for Specialized Health Care Procedures if assigned to specific students and trained by MCOE.
- $500 annual training incentive for employees who volunteer to participate in training for certification and willingness to administer emergency medications/procedures as defined by contract.
Schedule
Full-time position. Monday through Friday, 6.5 hours per day, 183 days per year.
