Under the general direction of the Principal, the Bilingual Paraeducator performs a variety of duties assisting teachers in the overall support of instructional activities for students enrolled in special education moderate/severe programs and/or mainstream classrooms.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in supporting instructional activities for students in special education moderate/severe programs and mainstream classrooms.
- Provide bilingual (English/Spanish) support to students as required.
- Complete the MCOE Crisis Intervention Program within six months of employment and maintain valid certification.
- Obtain CPR Certification within six months of employment.
- Pass the MCOE sign language test within six months of employment if working in the Program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of higher education study (48 semester units) OR possession of an Associate’s or higher degree OR met a rigorous standard of quality and able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Prior job-related experience, paid or voluntary, with school-age children or children/individuals with disabilities.
- Knowledge of First Aid and universal health precautions.
- Strong English and Spanish oral and written communication skills, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Possession of an appropriate valid California Driver’s License with evidence of insurability.
- Demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish by passing the MCOE Spanish Language Competency Test.
- Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a CTC-approved agency to determine the equivalent U.S. degree and major.
Benefits
- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators working in the DHH program with proficiency in sign language, as certified by MCOE.
- $150 per month incentive for Paraeducators with proficiency in Braille and working in a position eligible for this incentive.
- $150 per month incentive for Specialized Health Care Procedures if assigned to specific students and trained by MCOE.
- $500 annual training incentive to employees who volunteer for and complete training for certification and are willing to administer emergency medications/procedures as defined by contract.
Pay
Pay Range: $25.55 - $32.99 per hour.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday, 6.5 hours per day, 183 days per year.
